988 Global Chinese Music Outdoor Party -Queensbay

Sharing a light moment on stage - (from right) Soler, Gary and Justin.

Jason Chan - watch out for this newcomer !
Poor baby, Jason was sick on that night.

Power Station has a bunch of groupies cheering them...I was standing next to the group !

a
The Soler boyz are so darn cool !

Celebrating the success of emerging as the numero uno Chinese radio station in the northern region,988 staged an outdoor concert at Queensbay's carpark on 15th Sept, 2007. Apart from local acts like Henley, John Huang, Lin Yue Chung and Gary Chao, it also brought together HK's dynamic duo, Soler, Justin,Yumiko Cheng (sorry, no wardrobe malfunction here ! ) and rising newcomer,Jason Chan. Taiwan is represented by the formidable rock n roll band,Power Station and sultry "da siao jeh" Jin Sa from China.
Even before the show commenced, we were constantly monitoring the weather. Doesn't look like it's gonna be a dry affair to me. And I was right !!! Strong wind slowly formed into dark sky and before we could utter "rain rain go away, little johnny wants to pray", it started to pour !!! In less than a few minutes, we were soaked to the skin. To aggravate matter, the massive crowd was still stuck outside, unable to get-in. Our patience were wearing thin and finaly, after much shoving and cursing, we were allowed into the concert area.

The bad weather delayed the start of the concert. I guess the organizers were hoping for the rain to stop for good...fat chance! It only got worst....dark clouds were circulating above us non-stop. Good thing it didn't dampen the spirit of the enthusiastic crowd.

Power Station kicked off the concert with a rousing rock number. It really got the crowd all hyped up ! Our very own superman Gary was no letdown either. He thrilled the crowd with his runaway hit song, "Superman" and the crowd went wild when he rendered Frank Sinatra's "My Way." If I "hadn't known better, I'd thought that old blue eyes (Sinatra) himself was on stage ! Two thumbs up !
I'm no supporter of local artistes but still, I gave my hats off to Gary and Rynn Lin Yu Chung. Their radio friendly songs grew on you quickly ! Gary's exposure in Taiwan really helped a lot coz he took on the stage with ease. His showmanship is on par with his HK counterpart. He didn't do too well in his Cantonese song, though. Nothing to do with his voice. It's just that he needs to brush-up on his Cantonese diction. I can hardly make out the lyrics.
No suprises from Yumiko. She belted her usual forgettable thrashy dance numbers...everyone seemed to be more interested in whether there'll be another repeat of her accidental exposure incident. Newbie Justin Chan is definitely a rising star to watch out for. In terms of looks, he's just so-so but has powerful vocal to bring him far. I'm putting my bet on him when it comes to bagging next year's JSG Top Ten newcomer (gold) award....then again,he'll be facing stiff competition from TVB's pet,Raymond Lam.
Soler came on next...can't comment much on their songs. Not really to my liking and besides, I was too preoccupied admiring hunky Julio and Dino. I like the elder twin...the younger one looks a little too decent. Then, the star attraction of the night, Justin finally appeared !! Decked in all black outfit and his signature cap, he swayed to the beat of "Volar"....most of us were singing to the catchy chorus "Hey, Mr. DJ......." ahhh....love the song ! Of course, he didn't forget to entertain the audience with his heart tugging ballads.
The part I like best is probably the "cross-over" portion. Gary and Justin were a winning combination, belting out the old time favourite, "That's what friends are for." Another song worth mentioning is the duet between Lin Yu Chung and Jing Sa. You guessed it right - it's "Melodi." Soooo lomantic !
Power Station brought the house down during the finale with a medley of their evergreen hits. By then, it has turned into a mega karaoke session. Everyone was singing along......when the concert draw to a close, we were already dead tired. I had to pour out rain water from my shoes...yeah, that bad ! My clothes were still wet but still hasn't given up on stalking the stars. So, off we head to G Hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of Justin and Soler who were there to attend the post concert celebratory concert. Check out the pixs on display !

This is the first time Astro launched the AOD (Astro On Demand) promotional campaigne in Penang state. Joe Ma who was one of the casts of "Drive Of Life" and Raymond Cho have been roped in to help Astro entice more Penangites to sign up for AOD. Turnout was pretty poor on the 1st day but improved on the next.
