It's TVB anniversary month ! A busy period for tv buff  and media to speculate on who walks away as the new TV King and Queen. The mania has spread to Malaysia since the TVB Star Awards serve as a prelude to the awards ceremony back in HK. Roger Kwok, Kristal Tin and Linda Chung were at Paradigm mall to launch the event and urging fans to vote for them.  Both Roger and Kristal were very engrossed with taking selfie on the stage. Kristal seems to be fond of posing with a kissy face. Coincidently, she travelled to Malaysia along with hubby, Chapman Toh. Chapman had a meet-the-fans session at the same venue the following day.   Linda mentioned that she is happy to meet the local fans for the second time in a month.  She also did not forget to highlight her up-coming concert at Genting on Dec 20. Alex Fong and Kristal are her special guests. Food seems to be a mandatory question that emcee loves to ask HK celebrities. By now, most HK stars could utter "nasi lemak", "laksa" and "musang king durian" with ease.

23 Nov is the day of the award presentation. I know many dislike the idea of travelling to Genting for the event, especially on a Sunday nite. Not me though ! I am mighty pleased coz Arena Of Stars is an ideal venue for live shows. I had a nasty deja-vu feeling with the sucky voting website. Multiple problems that arose last year cropped-up again on the very first day of the voting. It was not resolved until 2-3 days later.  Who is my pick this year ? Charmaine is a pretty strong contender for my fave tv actress and as for the male artiste, I am rooting for Raymond Lam although I have a nagging feeling that it would go to Ruco instead (hopefully, not). I'll be happy if Roger gets a shot at it, if  the award eludes Raymond. Also, extending my support to the other Raymond (Wong) to secure a place in the top 15 fave character awards.

Bio-Essence Promotion - Meet Linda Chung ( 鍾嘉欣) at Sunway Pyramid (5 October 2014)

Frankly, I have nothing much to blog about this event. If Bio-Essence's intention is to turn this into a grand affair witnessed by everyone, then they should have erected a stage. Many passer-bys and fans (except from the fanclub and a few die supporters) left half-way through because they could hardly catch a glimpse of Linda Chung Ka Yan who were constantly surrounded by the media. The organizer might as well do it as private event, with just the press and not waste the time of those who had waited for hours for the public appearance. Fortunately, I managed to get a few shots of Linda BB ( 鍾嘉欣), after much difficulty.

There were three rounds of promotional tours across Malaysia, with the finale held at Sunway Pyramid.  Selected contest winners were invited to dine with Linda at Delicious restaurant before the open event commences. This also marks the inaugural Miss Tanaka White pageant, where five finalists were judged based on their poise and answers during the Q&A. The emcee told everyone that the undercover series (Line walker) is over, so please support Linda by watching "All that is better is sweet" and the soon to be aired action packed drama - "Tiger Cub 2". Linda sustained injuries on her left hand during an explosion scene.  She plays the role of  a CIB office dealing with bi-polar. Do you think Linda would clinch the TV Queen award this year ? Sorry, my money is on Charmaine Sheh.

Linda continues the long-standing relationship with Bio-essence (even after Raymond had ended the contract....Lam Fung probably commands too high a fee these days).  We live in a celebrity obsessed world.  Hence, Linda Chung's gorgeous princess-like look is no doubt the perfect ambassador to endorse a beauty and body care brand like Bio-essence. I can tell that she really does her best to promote the products but I wish she had a stronger voice.  Seriously, this lady is so soft spoken that I need a hearing-aid to make out what she's saying. A special segment was allocated for the Malaysian fan club (established for 10 years)  to express their gratitude and love to Linda. Members sang along to Linda's ending theme for "All that bitter is sweet" - 大愛.

Yuan Carnival 圆游会 (Nancy Wu, Edwin Siu, Eliza Shum and Benjamin Yuen) - 萧正楠, 袁伟豪,胡定欣 & 岑丽香 at OneCity - 4th October 2014

Yuan Carnival (organized by TV8, NTV7 and radio station OneFM) is a yearly event held at several states in Malaysia, featuring Chinese artiste line-up from local and abroad. Attending for the first time, the function proves to be a crowd puller. An array of TVB personalities (Benjamin Yuen, Nancy Wu, Edwin Siu and Eliza Shum - 袁伟豪, 胡定欣,萧正楠 & 岑丽香) were on hand to spice things up. A closed door meet-and-greet-cum-press conference invitations were also extended to selected lucky fans. By now, Benjamin Yuen and Nancy Wu have joined the ever growing list of TVB celebrities to proclaim Malaysia as their second home. Let’s not forget that Edwin Siu and Priscilla BB (Wong) have recently flown to Malaysia for a secret romantic rendezvous, too. Nasi Lemak is Edwin’s top pick for local food. Nancy took the chance to promote the soon to be aired TVB’s anniversary drama – “Trade Wars” (商戰) which includes Edwin in the cast. With the record breaking viewer ship garnered by “Line Walker”, it will be tough for “Trade Wars” to match or exceed "Line Walker"'s astonishing ratings and popularity. You know that the series is BIG when TVB turns it into a movie version. Regardless of the outcome, I feel that it is already a sweet personal triumph for Nancy and those who have relentlessly rooted for her (including me) over the years. Yes!! Nancy has finally landed the sought-after leading role in “Trade Wars”! Probably it is due to her choice of song but Nancy’s performance of Wanting’s Mandarin number is definitely below par, considering Nancy has consistently sang superbly in past live shows. This time around, there was a significant presence of Nancy’s fans, with placards and flower bouquet. My happiness for Nancy was short lived as one of the fans in the front row stood on a portable stool the moment the TVB stars appeared, blocking everyone’s view. Tell me, why do you need to stand on a stool when you are already in the first row?!!! Luckily, the fan quickly abandoned the plan after one of the irritated spectators complained.

Benjamin Yuen would be seen flexing his muscles on tv soon as the much anticipated sequel, “Tiger Cubs – 2”, is slated for October release. Benjamin did not disappoint with Lee Hom’s mid-tempo track and his singing ability gets better all the time. Benjamin shared things that he has done in his younger days to woo his girlfriend. Due to financial constraint, Ben did not splurge on flowers but made handicraft gifts instead. I think now all Benjamin has to do is put on his cool biker jacket and any gals would willingly hop on his beloved Ducati bike for a spin.

Next up is Eliza Shum. Her Cantonese has improved tremendously. She now speaks with only a slight accent. Singing still remains mediocre. I can hardly hear her when she sang “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. I did not have a good impression of Eliza when she first debuted. My perception of her slowly changed for the positive after “Hippocratic Crush 2”. I used to think Edwin is pretty hot when Anita Mui was still alive and showering praises on the then newcomer (competing with Juno Mak and their much publicized rivalry). After years of struggling in China, he is carving a name for himself again since re-signing with TVB. Lady luck is definitely smiling on Edwin in the career and love zone. Edwin is more good-looking in-person, especially that winning irresistible toothy smile of his ! Edwin performed the title track of “Brother’s Keeper” (minus Ruco, of course). Edwin still remembers a Malay word that he used to say in comedy “Daddy Good Deeds” (he played Malaysian citizen, Ah Yap) – “cicak” (lizard in English). After a brief hula hoop game sessions with a few kids (member of the audience) and an awfully long photo session with many groups (comprising winners of various contests), they bade farewell to the crowd. I have a hunch that all four will be back in December for Malaysia’s TVB awards.
