Meet Bosco Live - Dec 19 2007 (Kim Gary Function)

Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards - Michael Tse, Angela Tong & Myolie Wu

Calling all TVB buff !!! Yup, it's that time of the year again. In conjuction with the forthcoming Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards, Astro arranged for 3 TVB artistes to grace our shores. Michael Tse Tin Wah, Angela Tong Ying Ying and Myolie Wu Hang Yee were engaged in a 3-day back-to-back meet-the-fans sessions at various shopping malls located in Penang.

The event kicked off at Sunway Carnival Mall last Friday (Nov 30) at 8 pm and ended yesterday morning (Dec 2) at Sunshine Farlim Hypermarket's outdoor carpark. The crowd turnout was pretty impressive, considering Penangites are well known to be pro Taiwanese stars.

Cool prizes, including a fully sponsored trip to visit TVB city in Hong Kong and tickets to watch the WLTDA live at Sunway Convention Centre on Jan 26, 2008 were given away to the lucky ones. Fans were clamouring to go up the stage, to join in the games...mainly to get up close and personal with the TVB "fadan" and "siu sang." As expected, Myolie turns out to be the crowd favourite. She's the only one who had fans holding placards and banner supporting her. To be fair, Michael didn't disappoint either. He may not be as dashing as Ron Ng or Raymond Lam but he's certainly a seasoned pro when it comes to interacting with the fans. He literally had the fans eating out of his hands with his witty banters and playful antics.

WLTDA will be aired live on Astro Wah Lai Toi (channel 311) at 8pm. Voting for the awards starts on Dec 17 and ends on Jan 19 at midnight. For more information, visit
astromobile.com.my/wlt07. The full list of nominees should be published soon. Folks, get ready to vote !

HINS CHEUNG IN KL

Astro On Demand (AOD) - Ron Ng & Bernice Liu at Times Square

On 3rd and 4th November 2007, Bernice Liu Phaik Yee and heartthrob, Ron Ng,made two public appearances at Boulevard Driveway, Times Square (KL). The two TVB idols were here to promote the newly launched AOD (Astro On Demand) Dragon Pack. Astro offered the first 100 subscribers the privilege of having group photos taken with Ron Ng and Bernice Liu. Free autographs were thrown in to entice more subscribers. The gimmick seemed to work wonders as the number of people who signed up for the new AOD package were slowly increasing as the clock tick away....by 4 pm, die hard fans and curious onlookers have surrounded the Driveway.

Dome Cafe's cash register was ringing away as many desperate fans tried to occupy strategic spots at the alfresco dining area, trying their darnest to get a good view of the stage. Slightly past 4 pm, the crowd went into hysteria when R & B (Ron and Bernice) appeared ! Not wanting to be left out, I quickly scrambled to get a good spot. Just when I thought I found a good position,my mood was spoilt by a pesky little brat standing next to me. Again and again, the monster deliberately blocked my camera lens by raising his itchy hands. My blood was really boiling then....I wish I could shove him into Dome's coffee maker and turned the tyke into "Brat-zilian" coffee. What's worst, his guardian was no where to be seen....later, I spotted her clicking away near the stage. Obviously, she has forgotten all about her kiddo from hell and left me to his mercy. Thank God, I still managed to get a few good shots despite the stunt pulled by the "junior terrorist".

Anyway, back to R & B. Haven't seen Ron since last Jan during the Astro WLTDA at Arena of Stars. Frankly,I like the slim Ron better. At certain angle, he even looks like the younger version of Leon Lai. As usual, lovely Bernice was flashing her famous toothy smile 24-7. Many would agree with me that Bernice is an artiste that you can never hate, even if you are not a fan. She has such a down-to-earth persona and you can tell that she certainly ain't faking it. R & B did a short dance sequence. A couple of fans were invited up the stage to imitate their steps. It came to an end about 45 minutes or so.

988 Global Chinese Music Outdoor Party -Queensbay

Sharing a light moment on stage - (from right) Soler, Gary and Justin.

Jason Chan - watch out for this newcomer !
Poor baby, Jason was sick on that night.

Power Station has a bunch of groupies cheering them...I was standing next to the group !

a
The Soler boyz are so darn cool !

Celebrating the success of emerging as the numero uno Chinese radio station in the northern region,988 staged an outdoor concert at Queensbay's carpark on 15th Sept, 2007. Apart from local acts like Henley, John Huang, Lin Yue Chung and Gary Chao, it also brought together HK's dynamic duo, Soler, Justin,Yumiko Cheng (sorry, no wardrobe malfunction here ! ) and rising newcomer,Jason Chan. Taiwan is represented by the formidable rock n roll band,Power Station and sultry "da siao jeh" Jin Sa from China.
Even before the show commenced, we were constantly monitoring the weather. Doesn't look like it's gonna be a dry affair to me. And I was right !!! Strong wind slowly formed into dark sky and before we could utter "rain rain go away, little johnny wants to pray", it started to pour !!! In less than a few minutes, we were soaked to the skin. To aggravate matter, the massive crowd was still stuck outside, unable to get-in. Our patience were wearing thin and finaly, after much shoving and cursing, we were allowed into the concert area.

The bad weather delayed the start of the concert. I guess the organizers were hoping for the rain to stop for good...fat chance! It only got worst....dark clouds were circulating above us non-stop. Good thing it didn't dampen the spirit of the enthusiastic crowd.

Power Station kicked off the concert with a rousing rock number. It really got the crowd all hyped up ! Our very own superman Gary was no letdown either. He thrilled the crowd with his runaway hit song, "Superman" and the crowd went wild when he rendered Frank Sinatra's "My Way." If I "hadn't known better, I'd thought that old blue eyes (Sinatra) himself was on stage ! Two thumbs up !
I'm no supporter of local artistes but still, I gave my hats off to Gary and Rynn Lin Yu Chung. Their radio friendly songs grew on you quickly ! Gary's exposure in Taiwan really helped a lot coz he took on the stage with ease. His showmanship is on par with his HK counterpart. He didn't do too well in his Cantonese song, though. Nothing to do with his voice. It's just that he needs to brush-up on his Cantonese diction. I can hardly make out the lyrics.
No suprises from Yumiko. She belted her usual forgettable thrashy dance numbers...everyone seemed to be more interested in whether there'll be another repeat of her accidental exposure incident. Newbie Justin Chan is definitely a rising star to watch out for. In terms of looks, he's just so-so but has powerful vocal to bring him far. I'm putting my bet on him when it comes to bagging next year's JSG Top Ten newcomer (gold) award....then again,he'll be facing stiff competition from TVB's pet,Raymond Lam.
Soler came on next...can't comment much on their songs. Not really to my liking and besides, I was too preoccupied admiring hunky Julio and Dino. I like the elder twin...the younger one looks a little too decent. Then, the star attraction of the night, Justin finally appeared !! Decked in all black outfit and his signature cap, he swayed to the beat of "Volar"....most of us were singing to the catchy chorus "Hey, Mr. DJ......." ahhh....love the song ! Of course, he didn't forget to entertain the audience with his heart tugging ballads.
The part I like best is probably the "cross-over" portion. Gary and Justin were a winning combination, belting out the old time favourite, "That's what friends are for." Another song worth mentioning is the duet between Lin Yu Chung and Jing Sa. You guessed it right - it's "Melodi." Soooo lomantic !
Power Station brought the house down during the finale with a medley of their evergreen hits. By then, it has turned into a mega karaoke session. Everyone was singing along......when the concert draw to a close, we were already dead tired. I had to pour out rain water from my shoes...yeah, that bad ! My clothes were still wet but still hasn't given up on stalking the stars. So, off we head to G Hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of Justin and Soler who were there to attend the post concert celebratory concert. Check out the pixs on display !
