张敬轩 轩.动.魔法演唱会 -Hins Cheung - Hins. Moving. Magical. Live in Malaysia 2009 (18 April 09)

Cold ! Cold ! Cold ! And I wasn't describing the weather at Genting ! To his legions of supporters, Hins can do no wrong but to me and my friends, it was a flop ! I have to admit, if it weren't for the complimentary tickets, I doubt I would be there. I was under the impression that this would be similar to his HK concert (eventhough the name may not be the same) but to my surpise, it wasn't ! The arena was packed but I suspect the majority were actually complimentary ticket holders. I realized something was amiss when after an hour into the show, "Mr. Soprano" is still donning the same white outfit ! He even drank from a wine glass instead of the usual bottle/flask which other singers would normally do. My hunch hits bull-eye when finally, it came out from Hins' mouth..."musical". He referred to the concert as musical! No wonder ! In total, he only changed costumes twice and not a single dancer in sight ! A good portion of the concert (if you may called it that ! ) were spent covering other singers' chartbusters, ranging from Nicholas Teoh, Fish Leong, Michael Wong, Valen Hsu and finally, to Sandy Lam. And purlease ! Don't get me started about Sandy. If I hadn't known better, I thought Hins was doing a "Sandy Lam Tribute". He not only covered a medley of her dance tracks (which I have no complaints) but after that, he went overboard by performing tons of Sandy's evergreen sentimental songs ( full track, mind you !). I was really getting very restless by then. I couldn't believe that he actually left out his own hits like "Blessings" ,"Lonely Garden (Gu Tan Kung Yuin)" and "Wu Nen Wei Lik", in favour of singing others' songs ! He only broke into a short verse of "Blessings" (unplugged) during an impromptu encore (some super diehard fans refused to budge) when he was about to leave the arena for the celebration party. The co-organiser of this concert is Jazzy Group(which is new in Malaysia but quite established in HK, I heard) and they really need to buck-up ! I know Hins' ticket sales were not up to expectations but watching this show, it's so obvious that they are cutting cost to the minimum. No dancers, no fancy costumes, unknown band members (not the usual gang of Joey Tang,Pal Sin, Dannie Wong, Ted Lo)...and no fireworks ! What a letdown ! It's truly a "blessing" (pun intended) I didn't burn a big hole in my pocket getting the tixs.

Ray Lam - Ali Cafe Promotion (Sunway Pyramid) April 18, 2009

More homegrown brands are jumping into the bandwagon of recruiting HK stars to endorse their products. Latest in-line is "Ali Cafe", which is quite well known for its "Tongkat Ali - Power Root" instant coffee - a brew well-known for boosting guys'libido. Following Old Town White Coffee's footstep, Ali Cafe has also branched out by opening a few cafes, in-addition to producing instant coffee. 300 posters were given away to those who purchased more than 2 packets of Ali Cafe's range of coffee. Raymond is another "auntie killer" (see lai sat sau). Quite a number of aunties turned-up real early to catch a glimpse of Raymond. Ah Fung appeared right on time - at 1.45 pm for the autograph session. Raymond expressed he was excited about his upcoming concert in HK and hope he could have one in Malaysia, too ! Throughout the autograph session, Raymond was seen wiping away beads of sweats (the smile never left his face, though) and at one time, he even put on his shades to avoid the sunlight !
