Despite the occasional doubt, I was pretty confident that Chilam would walk away with this year’s Malaysia fave actor award and most probably, score big again in the upcoming TVB Anniversary Award. Having organized the award show for over a decade (from WahLoiToi to AOD awards), Astro handed the baton to TVB this year as the main organizer while Astro/MyFM served as the media collaborator. There were a few voting hiccups that made the entire voting a very nerve wrecking process.  I hope TVB would improve in this area next year. Utmost on everyone’s mind must be the annoying sluggish server. It was no fault of TVB but rather, the local IT company that TVB had engaged to manage the voting website. To complete one vote, it took more than an hour !! By the time, the problem was fixed, it was almost the end of the polling deadline.  Secondly,bogus votes from non-Malaysians. Unscrupulous fans resorted to deceitful tactics to create false ID in-order to increase their idols’ votes. Astro was smart and exercised control via barring non Malaysian IP address. That’s not my only grouses. To complicate matters, the IT company screwed up yet again during the winner list announcement. First, they published the wrong ticket winners in the English version of the web. Then, they even sent emails to the wrong recipients !  I was also pretty skeptical about the venue (KWG), a fairly new mall that had hosted a few fans-meet for K-pop stars before. The hall was not fully enclosed and thus, resulted in muffled sounds at times. Also, it was not possible to have red carpet due to space constraint.

The core emcees were Wong Cho Lam, Luisa Lai and Jarvis Chow, supported by a bunch of co-hosts from TVB anchor team (which I am not familiar with at all). The stars arrived in pair via Lexus automobiles .The artistes were dressed more decently this time than the Starhub event in Singapore recently.  Edwin was the odd one out. Obviously, designer Dorian Ho  has a huge passion for flowery prints, which could be the in-thing now in HK.  Kenneth donned a flowery suit but surprisingly, he actually look quite suave in the outfit. Chilam may not have many neon signboards (I saw one from his Thailand fanclub) or placards but received the most applause  from the crowd. One delirious Chilam fan kept shouting “over here !” , at the same time, swirling her jacket in the air non-stop to catch  Captain Cool’s attention.   Edwin’s fans were really inconsiderate to put their placards up high whenever Edwin appears, blocking the view of others. Fans should just bring neon boards, not placards and posters to the event. For God’s sake, the stars won’t be able to see the placards in the dark !

Chilam and Linda were the newly crowned tv king and queen. Linda shedded tears of joy as she recollected the years she spent in showbiz and thanked her mom for sending her 80s clothes (for Brother’s Keeper drama)…heck !she even thanked the janitor.  From her speech,  I sensed that Linda knows  “Rachel” was no breakthrough role. Tavia and Linda showed great camaraderie.  As for Krystal, I was really surprised she made it to top 15. She was never in the list published weekly prior to the ceremony. Must be a last minute addition but I have to agree that Kristal really shines in “Brother’s Keeper.”I  have predicted that Eliza would win although I’m rooting for Elaine because after all, this is a popularity award poll with less emphasis on acting prowess. Man, I am so glad that Jason did not bag the most improved award.  Benjamin, Sammy, Vincent and even Matt are far more deserving than Jason. Deep down, I know that there is no way Joey Meng would snag the most fave actress award but I was still hanging on to the hope that TVB would at least acknowledged her stellar performance by giving her the character award but nada ! Nancy and Him grabbed the same awards again this year (Best Supporting Actor and Actress) and both harbor the same hope of being nominated for leading roles next year. They were such a sweet couple in “Triumph In The Skies II,” which was the fave drama of the year.  Frankly, I do not have a fave drama this year.  “Triumph In the Skies II” did not hold my interest as Fala had hog all the screen time.  Her unnatural "tin chan" expression is a major turn-off ! I luv Cho Lam’s witty sarcasm when he introduced the final top 5 contenders for "my fave actor" category. I am also happy for Tavia and Kenneth’s  fave couple triumph.  Halfway through “Hippocratic Crush II” now and I find their chemistry awesome, especially during heart wrenching scenes.

 The guest performers for the night were Jonathan Wong, Jay Fung, Mag Lam, Hubert Wu and Fred Cheng. Fred looks good in person and surprise !surprise !he has a fanclub in Malaysia already !  After winning “The Voice : Stars’ Legend”, his popularity hits sky high.  Sweet victory for Fred, more so having struggled for a decade with cameo roles  in TVB.  Sadly, Mag has become boring and predictable.   Mag was touted as the next HK Alicia Key when she won “The Voice” singing contest but after a bout of voice problem, depression and suspected eating disorder (resulting in a long break/hiatus), her career seems to have come to a standstill.  I like Hubert.  His voice was soothing and rich.
