For many years now, I have not seen adulation of this
magnitude for a TV star. Evidently, Captain Cool is the man of the year . You
have to witness for yourself the crazy frenzy during “Chilam and Friends”
concert in Genting recently to know how popular this dude is. Chilam was mobbed wherever he goes…hotel lobby was
packed to the brim with zealous fans of all ages and gender. Genting security
had to resort to using secret passage ways to evade the crowd.
The concert’s top draw is Chilam, followed by Him Law who has amazed a massive following in
Malaysia, too. You can’t deny that Him is one heck of a lucky fella. His fame did not diminish after Theresa Fu’s scandal but soared to even
greater heights, more so after his much publicized romance with Tavia and his
endearing role as “Onion” in “The Hippocratic Crush.” Him has a bunch of loud
and enthusiastic fans that have obviously moved him so much that he is willing
to do an encore of Leon Lai’s “夏日傾情” Never mind if
he sings off key ( but still looking pretty engrossed) as fans did not mind a
bit. Him wore a tad too much make-up which made him look a little effeminate.
Luckily, the make-up artist did a better job the next day when he appeared at
TVB Star Awards presentation. Him wore a long black skirt with matching black
boots. For a while, I thought he is gonna dance but he only belted slow “lum” songs.女songs.
I reserved my loudest
cheers for Sharon and Nancy. Sharon gave
a very vibrant performance. Nancy (a former TVB New Talent Singing Contest
participant) deserved compliment for her effort,too. Both may not be perfect
singers but still, performed decently in sentimental and fast tracks.

Next came the moment everyone has been eagerly anticipating…..Cool
Mor’s grand entrance ! His attire on
that day somehow reminds me of Master Q’s outfit. Chilam was his usual charming
boyish self, enthralling everyone in the crowd.
It was one heck of chaotic scene when Chilam came down from the stage
for the hand shake session. A mad rush ensued (with cell phones and cameras in
hands) to get as close to Chilam as possible. Chilam sang mostly songs
from this past tv series. Surprisingly, he belted Lesie’s classic “無心睡眠” (second time performing in public), with GorGor’s
signature hands gestures. Chilam made no secret of his wish to clinch the Fave
Actor award the following day (TVB Star Awards Malaysia) and needless to say,
he nailed it !Again I felt kinda bad for Sharon because the other 3 performers
got to stay back another day to attend the award ceremony. Better luck next
year, Sharon. After the concert had concluded, I was greeted with a huge crowd
lingering in the hotel lobby waiting for Captain Cool. Quoting Captain Cool’s
famous quote – “I am handsome but I am not stupid, ”Chilam successfully gives
die-hard fans the slip.
