Aaron Kwok is back to rock the stage after a lapse of 8
years since his last concert in Genting.
During the height of the Covid pandemic, I still recalled tuning in to
Aaron’s online charity concert called “Cheer Up and Dance”, which drew 2.6
million viewers in FB and 1.1 million on YouTube. It was such a gratifying
feeling to catch Aaron in action with 100 masked dancers at the rooftop of
Harbour City mall when I am stuck at home.
After countries started reopening their borders, I noticed consumers’
enthusiasm for live shows have elevated (with that, scalpers have also become
more brazen). Literally all concerts in
Malaysia are sold out within hours. It’s
no different with Aaron’s “Amazing Kode World Tour”. Tickets for all 3 shows were gone in a flash.
Aaron’s tour premiered in USA this year before hitting the road in Singapore, followed by Malaysia. As with Jacky Cheung, Aaron kick started his tour abroad and not at home ground, HK. I like his repertoire – alternating between upbeat track and ballads. Hence, no dull moment and no time for bio break during the show. Opening with the massive iconic hits “狂野之城” and “唱这歌”, Aaron in a figure hugging purple ensemble, thrilled fans with his smooth choreography. He also sang to a new musical arrangement and dance routine for crowd favourite “对你爱不完”. He also belted other signature upbeat tracks such as Para Para Sakura, 有效日期 and 铁幕诱惑. Aaron demonstrated that age is just a number when he shines on stage with his trademark electrifying nifty dance steps. Aaron passionately serenated fans with a string of Mandarin and Cantonese ballads, transporting us back to the roaring 90s. It as a massive euphoric singalong during “到底有谁能够告诉我”. Surprisingly, the lyrics come to my mind effortlessly despite not listening to them for ages. The strong bond between Aaron and his fans (many already in their 30s to 50s) is evident. The support from his fans was nothing short of overwhelming throughout the concert. Aaron also became sentimental and touched about ageing gracefully, a process that everyone has to endure eventually and expressed his gratitude to fans for sticking around for the past 33 years.
Aaron urged the crowd to stand up and move along to “动起来” and “著迷” during the encore segment. Aaron also tossed autographed rugby balls to lucky concert goers. Prior to the concerts, Aaron received the “Excellent Achievement in Film” award from the chairman of Malaysia International Film Festival.
