What a mind-blowing awesome show ! The brainchild of HK maestro lyricist, Wyman Wong, this concert features an incredible star-studded A-list ensemble of singers (both current and those who are already in semi/full retirement - Maggie Fu, Cass Phang, Candy Lo and Amanda Lee). From the juiciest chart toppers to 90s smash hits, this show is simply bursting with pure pop goodness ! The audience not only had a taste of the finest audio entertainment, visual was an eye-popping spectacle too (enchanting lightings and props). Let's not forget that all the stars are decked in their most stylish, alluring , elegant and hip attires (from sponsors such as IT, Vivienne Westwood, JPG and others).
The most explosive applause was heard when Cass Phang stepped foot on the stage. After turning into a full-time homemaker-cum-devoted mom for a decade, this diva is still in top form ! My heart melted when Cass sang "小玩意" (at one time was a popular wedding anthem). Cass was obviously touched by the audience's deafening appreciation. For the record, Cass only appears on the first and last night of YY Concert. Before my heart had a chance to switch back to normal beat, the duet of the century came on !! Yes, Cass and Joey rendition of 心淡 was so moving...simply the best live performance ! I had goose bumps all over and my friend was so excited that she had gastric!
Wyman let on that the very pregnant Kelly could not make it to the show but some one else had volunteered instead. I thought Wyman was referring to Miriam (whom they were rumoured to have a fall-out) but a limping Eason Chan appeared instead ! Aided by a cane, Eason revealed that Wyman is like a family member (who happens to be extremely close to Hilary Tsui,too). Eason (originally scheduled to appear only on the final concert slot) suprised the crowd with a medley of his hits.
Other memorable nostalgic tracks that evoke the memory bank are Candy Lo's "好心分手", Amanda Lee's "(你沒有) 好結果" and Maggie Fu's "絕." Hins Cheung performed only one song - "井 ". Same goes for Ah Gung aka William So, who mesmerized the audience with his career revival karaoke song - "那誰". Joey (the opening act)had quite a number of costume changes. Most eye-catching is the silver sparkling bra-top. Cho B (Joey) and Goo (Denise) fans were eagerly waiting for a duet of "勞斯萊斯" but sorry folks ! the magic moment didn't happen. I kept wondering if Sammy would turn-up ....when the spotlight suddenly shone on Lady Gaga of the East- Sammi, I screamed myself hoarse! Apart from doubling-up as the emcee, Wyman also shared anecdotes and his perspectives on fashion with the crowd...parading in various bold and trendy outfits.
In-line with Wyman's quirky and innovative style, the concert ended with a toast to Wyman on the dining table. Truly a fascinating concert !
On a side note, Grasshoppers (including Edmond So's wifey Winnie Lau Siu Wai and their manager, Sandy Lam (Cass Phang's sister-in-law) were present to support Wyman, too.
