Áfter procrastinating for 4 months, I'm finally back, folks ! Okey-dokey, now let's back track a little to January 08. Genting kicked-off the concert scene with "Gor Sun" (God of Songs) Jacky Cheung's World Tour. It turns out that Genting was the last leg of his world tour before returning to Hong Kong for the grand finale. His marathon concert actually commenced in mid Feb 07 and an interesting point to note is that he made 2 stop-overs in Malaysia. The first one was on 14 Sept 2007 at National Stadium (Outdoor) at Bukit Jalil, organized by Galaxy. I gave that a miss due to clash of schedule and the fact that I'm not really keen on attending concerts organized by Galaxy, unless I don't have a choice. Opportunity presents itself again in Jan 2008 when Genting organized another Jacky concert (yes, again ! barely six months later). What was originally meant to be 2 shows were increased to 3, due to overwhelming response. Apparently, tickets for the first two nights were snapped up like hot donuts from J.Co ! Coincidently, the concert at Genting on 20 January happens to be the 99th show of his world tour. Impressive !
One thing that I really have to mention is that I've always favoured Arena of Stars as the best concert venue in Malaysia. Forget about Bukit Jalil, Stadium Merdeka....all crappy venue ! The seating capacity at Arena of Stars is just perfect and the size of the hall really brings out the best sound system in a concert. Plus, security is much more lenient than those overzealous "bouncers" from Galaxy. Alas ! I spoke too soon !! Must all good things come to an end ? I had a bad nagging feeling before the concert when I spotted Genting security personnels holding "No photography" signboard, with a mini torchlight in-hand. My worst fears were confirmed when Jacky came on stage and I saw flash lights started flashing here and there !!! Genting has followed Galaxy's dumb idea of barring photography during concert!!! Aiyoyo !!! IT REALLY SUCKS !!! That explains why I only snapped 2 pixs of Jacky. Luckily, I managed to make-up for the losses by taking a few short clips of him in-action (discreetly, of course).
The highlight of Jacky's concert is the musical segment, where he enacted scenes from "Perhaps Love" and "Snow Wolf Lake." Then again, some find it boring...preferring to see Jacky rendering his golden oldies. Jacky did not disappoint...he belted hit songs, one after another...grooving to fast tracks like "Dao Fatt Luin Liu" and "Mong Kei Ta", working the crowd into a frenzy eventhough a large portion are made-up of middle- age folks. There was a heart tugging moment during the concert when he dedicated a song, penned specially for his god-sister, the late Anita Mui. Suddenly, memories of the diva came rushing to my mind. It was definitely worth the money spent (except for the ugly incident...yeah, the no photos thingy lah ! What else ! ).
