The moment Grasshopper vs Softhard's 12th concerts dates in HK hits my radar, I kept my fingers crossed. Oh...my wish came true alright but at a hefty price tag. Galaxy (concert organizer) imposed ridiculously high ticket prices. As predicted, owing to lukewarm responses, the 2 shows in Genting was reduced to one. Even the turn out for the sole Saturday concert was far from encouraging. This benefited many of my friends/fans because they ended-up sitting a row behind me although their tickets are several hundred $ cheaper.
Eric and Jan provided the funny moments but lacked hit songs. I'm surely not complaining since they are the very reason I paid an arm and a leg for this concert. The show was split into several rounds, whereby each group sends a rep to pit against each other in singing and dancing. The results of each round is judged by the audience through their applause. Grasshopper emerges as the overall champion for their Malaysia stop. The first round (a remix of George Lam's "10 minutes, 12 inches", with Alan/Leslie/Anita/Roman's 80s Cantopop hits) was fun ! The final segment was SH and Ghopper's non-stop rendition of their up-tempo hits. Remus over does it again with his "yiu-ness." The obscene striking pink object jutting out from his blue outfit was hideous and indecent.
Big guy Eric Kot is now half the size he was before. The lean Eric can now dance !! The camaraderie between these 5 fellas and having Jan's sister, Sandy Lamb, as Grasshopper's manager, helps ensure the concerts proceed without a hitch. Holding 12 shows in HK with capacity crowd is an astounding achievement. They have this novel idea of embedding SH vs GH t-shirt in a hollow durian and giving it to a lucky unsuspecting fan who thought that they wanted to treat her musang king durian. It would have been a perfect ending to the concert if the guys had performed “山頂嘅朋友" during encore.
