To non-Malaysian, “Outbound Love” might just be another romantic TVB drama to be broadcasted during cannon fodder time slot – Lunar New Year (when the majority of HK viewers are away).  It’s a whole different scenario for Malaysians though. The hype of this drama started since last April and local TVB fans so eagerly anticipate the broadcast date – Jan 20 2014 (8.30 pm). Yeah, yeah… I’m doing my bit to promote the series (so hoping Elaine gains more recognition via this drama) and the fact that it is shot in various lovely locations here (from KL’s twin towers and Batu Caves to Sekinchan’s breathtaking paddy fields and of course, Penang). Alert : Major Elaine Yiu adulation in this post !

Allow me 10 seconds to gush over Elaine’s image in this drama. Elaine is so spellbinding hot in this drama, playing a singer that eventually dumps Ruco. Not many is aware that Elaine is good in singing live. I am so keeping my fingers and toes crossed to see her showcase her vocal prowess in “Outbound Love”. In a surprising move by TVB, the breezy theme song will be a Mandarin number by Rosina Lin Xia Wei (LF’s cousin). She plays newcomer Tony Hung’s (Tony is a seasoned and capable host) spunky love interest.

The gals (minus Aimee) arrived earlier to film a CNY special for TVB8. Guys (Ruco and mumsy – who hails from Penang, Tony and Matt) touched down in Penang the day after. Tony has gotten more charismatic since I last saw him.  From certain angle, he resembles a youthful  Tony Leung.  Aside for Ruco (who sometimes suffer from mood swings), the rest of “Outbound Love” casts are exceptionally friendly and approachable.

During the press conference cum promotion, Ruco belted the sub theme - 差半步 here. Ruco definitely sings better than HK's current batch of idol singers. Elaine impresses with her pitch perfect version of "对你太在乎”, made famous by Kelly Chen. Elaine is hooked on Ipoh white coffee and likes "umbrella" beverage. Lol ! Wonder no more. "Umbrella" is actually known as "ambra", a drink concocted from “ambra” fruit and dried sour plum. There was a hilarious games session where a couple of fans and their celebrity partners tried to identity and provide Chinese translations for Malay words. Elaine’s team emerged as the winner. Fans were also asked to draw pictures of fruits just from listening to the artistes’ descriptions. The final game segment with the audience is the chance to take instant pixs with the stars but first off, they need to convince them to stay in Penang. Elaine will probably be known as “Elaine BB” from now (a moniker coined by HK paparazzi for artistes like Linda Chung, Priscilla Wong and not forgetting LF’s current squeeze) as a fan suggested that Tony addressed her as “Elaine BB”.  Tony hopes that his debut drama fares well.  2013 has been quite a slow year for Rosina. If memory serves me right, her last drama was “The Day of Days”, aired a year ago during the festive season. Ruco divulged that this drama holds special meaning for him (the sentimental value probably lies in the fact that Ruco has roots in Penang) and hopes that viewers would vote for it during Malaysia's TVB awards (too soon to remind the audience lah, Ruco !). I caught his mom chatting with a few elderly folks here, whom I believe are their relatives.  Matt stayed back in Malaysia after the promo ended. Interestingly, Matt actually took wedding photos in Penang (before the drama shoot) with his ex- fiancée but have parted ways recently. My friend hollered “Chin Pang” and he responded by saying “Call me Luk Gung Chi” (the name of his character). Ruco managed to pick –up quite a number of Malay words, such as “leceh” (sucks), “nasi lemak” (a popular cuisine) and at one time, I heard him said “Sui” (pretty in Hokkien dialect). This drama happens to be Aimee’s first protagonist role. Aimee’s skills are improving but has yet to attain the level where she could lead the drama and hold the audiences’ interests. Having said that, I really hope this drama achieves reasonable ratings. After all, I would love to see a sequel to “Outbound Love” (more Elaine !! Woohoo! ).
