As
predicted, TVB’s new blue-eyed boy, Hubert Wu, is the main crowd puller. Fred
came in a close second, with majority of ‘em flying all the way from HK. Fred
certainly has a bunch of devoted HK advocates as they seem to show up for all
his appearances in Malaysia. And I thought that his popularity took a hit after
his much publicized romance with Stephanie Ho.
Oh, yes, we have the “Bao-Mei-Lai” trio too, comprising Evergreen Mak,
Joyce Tang and Elena Kong. Back in early May, they shot “Bazaar Carnival” in
Penang’s wet markets and the quest continues in KL.
Berjaya
Times Square is an ideal venue for public events but obviously Astro didn’t put
on their thinking cap when they decided to hold it at the boulevard. Common
sense is obviously not common ! Hello! You don’t do that during rainy season
! When it finally pours and with barely
half an hour to go before the function, Astro’s staff were still undecided
about the seats and stage arrangement. Astro has also assigned a noob emcee to
host the meet & greet session. I get that he is still inexperienced but his
continuous jabbering really tortures my ears and explaining Chinese idiom to
the BaoMeiLi folks ? Seriously? That’s insulting, dude. I’m not surprised at all that
Astro’s subscriptions suffered and there were even talks of selling the company
after their share price came tumbling down in the stock market. Let’s not
forget the recent newsflash about its customers data being leaked on-line. And
don’t get me started about their sister company, telco Maxis’ deplorable service
but that’s a story for another day.
Fred’s
supporters are decked in red attires while Hubert’s fans are in yellow. From
afar, it looks like a sea of Bersih supporter vs UMNO’s red shirts (those
familiar with Malaysia politics should know what I am talking about). The crowd were treated to Hubert’s new track
(see video clip) and of course, the popular 到此一遊 (from
“The Exorcist’s
Meter” series). Fred did the same thing. There was also in auction in progress,
from fresh veggies, fruits, “Bazaar Carnival” autographed recycle bags, Ruco’s
sunglasses, Fred’s concert dvd boxset and etc. Proceeds from the auction and charity
sale went to UNICEF (if memory serves me right). Out of curiosity, I bought
Sharon Chan’s Blesscuit cookies and pleasantly surprised that they were tasty !
During the Q&A, Joyce and Elena professed that Malaysia is their second
home. Joyce claims that she is a “Durian monster”. Joyce could chow down tons of durian
non-stop. The Baomeili trio really jazz up the otherwise dull event. On a side
note, it appears that Astro has decided to continue with the fifth season of
“Wellness On The Go”. I recalled they announced in 2016 that it would be the
last season.
