If I have the ability to resurrect the popularity of a HK group, my vote goes to DJ Tommy's protege - C Kwan and 6 Wing, better known as hip hop ensemble "FAMA." Having bagged strings of accolades at several major award ceremonies in 2008 due to critically acclaimed rap anthem - "風生水起" and a successful debut concert, they seemed all set to conquer the HK music scene. It truly saddens me when their career started to head south since mid 2011. Recent setbacks include the abrupt cancellation of their 3rd solo concert in HK, which was thankfully replaced by a talk-show-cum-mini-live-performance. 6-wing welcomed the arrival of his bundle of joy but partner, C-kwan, was devastated when his significant other-half calls off their impending wedding plan. Now that they are back in TVB and releasing their much awaited album in second half of 2012, my fervent wish is to see FAMA becoming a force to be reckoned with in the HK hip hop arena. Both revealed recently that they will be having solo projects in 2013.
After an absence of 1.5 years in Malaysia (I missed their last performance in Msia - Tiger Music Festival in May 2011), I was ecstatic that FAMA is back for a series of marathon promotions and best of all, bringing the talk show/mini concert thingy to Malaysia. Work obligations hindered my plan to catch each and every one of their functions but suffice to say, I was overwhelmed with an emotional surge of happiness when I saw those guys in action. Allow me to quote Big Bang's infamous lyrics - "Wow ! Fantastic baby !!" I was pleasantly surprised when they greeted me despite not seeing them for close to 2.5 years. Still as nice as ever. Also, it's my first ever encounter with talented producers/composers - DJ Tommy and DJ Galaxy.
After a nasty experience at KL Live Center, I was not too pleased with the choice of venue. My worries were quickly laid to rest coz the organizer, Levot Entertainment, is not only accomodating to fans but they did a remarkable job organizing this event. You're da man, Levot crew ! Worked harder ! I want them to take over arrogant organizers like Galaxy and Jazzy Group !
There was no costume change during the show. Both are decked in shocking red and blue attires. Aside from performing new hits from their latest effort (雙喜臨門 album), they kept the fans hyper by covering old tracks, too. The gag portion was also extremely well received by the audience. The crowd had such an awesome time that they refused to budge when it was time for curtain call. After long cries of "encore" from enthusiastic supporters, they appeared again to satisfy the crowd with a few unplugged version of their songs and "年少无知" (theme from "天與地" -When Heaven Burns). I may not dig Jonathan Chik's pretentious and crappy drama but I do like the song. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Fama. Hopefully, the year of the golden water snake will be smooth sailing for Fama (and me, too) !
