Mention
5-member Road Boyz and most k-pop enthusiasts will give you a blank stare but
not anymore after their showcase in KL recently. In the looks department, they are only so so.
However, I really like their catchy songs. I’ve been playing them non-stop
since watching their live performance - “Shake It Shake It”, “Show Me The Bang
Bang”, Be My Love“ and “Poison Girl”.
Needless to say, similar to other Korean “manufactured” boy band, their
dancing skill is impeccable! Prior to the showcase, they also served as the
judges for the local k-pop dance competition held at Sungai Wang Plaza. Despite being new to the scene, there are
fans holding placards supporting these rookies already. I have to admit it’s
definitely worth attending this free showcase coz it seems to go on forever !
They performed song after song, played games with the fans and had a surprise
celebration for the birthday boy, Maca. There is also a photo cum autograph
session thrown-in, too. In addition to
performing songs from their first album, they also delighted the fans with Big
Bang’s monster hit,“Bang Bang Bang”, which had everyone singing along. As much as I like Road Boyz, it will be tough
for them to make an impact in the already saturated boy band market, especially
when they are not backed by giants like YG, S.M. or JYP Entertainment. Road
Boyz are signed to Coconut Entertainment and made their debut in Nov 2015.
