Only one word to describe
Hacken Lee and Joey Yung’s concert at Arena of Stars, Genting on last Saturday
– Amazing ! Truth be told, I wasn’t too
impressed after watching Joey and Hacken’s concert dvd earlier this year. There
were too many sappy love songs in the rundown. Hence, I wasn’t particularly
excited on concert day although I am a super diehard supporter of Joey. I was
so so wrong. The concert was nothing short of spectacular in all areas. Lightings and visual effects are simply
stunning. Also, for the first time in Genting’s history (I think), the concert
lasted for a freaking 3.5 hours and ended at almost 12 midnite !!! Normally,
it’s just a two hour affair. This
dynamic duo gave their all on the final leg of their 2016 world tour. Hardly a boring moment throughout the
show. I’m not exaggerating when I say
almost all the audience were under the spell of Joey and Hacken. They have a
magical way of mesmerizing the fans with their funny banters and God given
voices. This duo has great chemistry, be it during duet as well as
interaction. Kudos to the musical
director, Hobing (Denise Ho’s elder brother). This dude’s piano skills is
superb, probably as good as Lang Lang. I always have the feeling that Joey treats
Hobing really well and again, it shows during the concert. Both singers kept
complimenting Hobing. Whenever each
performed their classic song, accompanied by the jaw-dropping beautiful
backdrop visual, I have goose bumps all over. Simply breath taking, especially
when Joey covered Hacken’s 我不會唱歌 .
I actually regretted big time for
only watching one instead of two shows. I originally wanted to but stopped
short because of the steep ticket price which is even higher than Big Bang’s!
Of course, after 3.5 hours of pure entertainment bliss, all is forgiven. This is not the first time both have
performed in Genting. I have seen them before at the same venue more than a
decade ago, performing “刻不容缓”. At that time, cross over
(collaboration of singers from different record companies) was still pretty
rare. As many are aware but not surprised, Hacken has recently switched stable
from “Universal” to “EEG”.
Hacken shared that he has a
hard time believing that he is performing in Malaysia because the temperature
in Genting has been abnormally cold. He even needed two heaters to keep him
warm ! Hacken also told the audience that his idol is watching the show. His
so-called idol turns out to be none other than Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia’s top
badminton player). Joey was here a year
ago for the “1314” concert and jokingly said that she has seen and worked with
Hacken so often from last year till now that she felt like puking. I’m
delighted Joey performed the new song from her J-Pop new album (which I love to
the max) -新貴. This
time, they added another segment which was not in their HK concert - “ I am
Singer” (我是歌手). Both took turns to sing songs
they performed during the singing contest. I assumed the show will end after
the encore but we got a huge bonus instead !
The song request portion ! Oh my
! It lasted for so long (and yet, I dun want it to end). It was so much fun,
with the audience singing along while switching on the cellphone light and mega
nostalgic moment. Even when the show finally wrapped out, many fans were
reluctant to leave the hall. We were still chanting for encore and calling out Joey and Hacken’s
names. We simply refused to let the concert end ! And I'm most definitely having withdrawal symptoms now !
