Red,
red and more red…that’s the theme of BigBang’s front man, G Dragon’s 3rd solo world tour – ACT III
M.O.T.T.E. (Moment Of Truth The End). GD’s concert concept goes hand-in-hand
with his newly released EP entitled “Kwon Ji Yong” (GD’s full name). The EP is available in both CD as well
as pen drive – seen as a bold and
innovative move in the k pop scene. I made the right decision by watching GD live
in Bangkok instead of KL. The surprising
thing is I noticed more than 50% of the audience turn out originates from
mainland China. Impact Arena in Bangkok is almost perfect, compared to the
awful outdoor Stadium Merdeka in KL. GD’s
concert package for VIP ticket holders are short changing Malaysians fans. Thailand’s concert organizer offers so much
privileges to the Thai fans (sound check, send off, special lanyard , goodie
bag). In Malaysia, sound check is through lucky draw only.
GD
kicked off the concert with the crowd favorite, “Heartbreaker”. There is a live
band but to be honest, to this day, I am not certain which songs are sung live
and which are just minus-one music. As you
can view from the clips, GD only sings certain portion of a song coz you can
still hear his voice in the background when GD is not singing. Having said
that, as a true-blue fan, I don’t really mind as I am just contented to see him
in-the-flesh. GD did not perform any Big Bang songs. His repertoire consists of
tracks for his previous solo album plus all the songs from GD’s latest comeback
album titled “Kwon Ji Yong.” Fans went
wild when GD greeted everyone “sawadikap”
and spoke entirely in English but at times, it was hardly audible to me as he
spoke way too soft. GD mentioned that M.O.T.T.E
is his second world tour as a solo artist which is an honour to him and the
support of VIPs(BB fans) made him the successful performer he is today. He also
revealed that his song, “Divina Commedia” is inspired by a book he read which
bears the same title. The highlight of the show which caught me off-guard is
when GD went down the stage during the final song ! Oh my ! What a treat for
the lucky fans seated in the VIP zone. There is no rock zone in Bangkok, which
is a blessing. If you look at the seating arrangement in GD’s KL leg, those in
the VIP seats will be blocked by standing fans in the rock zone. I’m also
totally in love with GD’s cool tie-dye t-shirt (be it the black, blue, rainbow
or the red version that he frequently dons during his M.O.T.T.E tour). The tee is
pretty costly if you look it up in the Peace Minus One page and I think already
sold out. To satisfy my new obsession, I
bought a few different tie-dye tees of various designs in Thailand. Yes, I like
the quirky but cool Channel Peace Minus One messenger bag, too. No wonder
everyone regards GD as a fashion icon. Anything he wears turn into an instant
hit. It was a heart stopping moment for fans when GD had an accidental scary
fall (into a hole on the stage) during the second nite. Fortunately, GD was not seriously hurt and managed to
continue the show till the end. This will be GD’s swansong concert before he
and fellow bandmate, Taeyang (who has also embarked on his world tour) enlist
in the army next year. It will quite some time before we get a chance to see all five of them
perform together as Big Bang. Till then,
Malaysia fans could dine at the soon-to-be opened YG Republique eatery to satisfy their K-pop pang and try to catch
a glimpse of Seungri when he officiates the opening (private function).
